a statement or action that can be subtle/unintentional discrimination against members of a marginalized group.

Examples of African American Microaggressions
“You’re smart for a black person”
“Why do you have to be so loud?”
“You act like a white person”
“Your voice sounds like a man”
“Your hair is unprofessional”
“Your hair looks nice for a black person”
Making fun of black peoples hair in general
Any comments about us eating fried chicken, watermelon, and more
“Why do you speak so informally?”
Examples of Trans Microaggressions
“How can you fee like a man and a woman?”
“This wont make you happy”
“Why cant you just love yourself as your original gender”
“You just wanna be different”
“This gender isn’t real”
“No matter how much you change your body you will never be that gender”
“Everyone knows what you are”
“Whats your real name/gender?”
Examples of Sexuality Microaggressions
“Its just a phase”
“Why is being gay your whole personality”
“Im not homophobic, but…”
“I don’t approve”
“How can you be queer if you dated the opposite gender before?”
“You don’t look gay”
“When did you turn gay?”
“Which one of you is they ‘guy’/‘woman”
“Does that mean you’ll start liking me?”
Microaggressions can be very hurtful even if it is not your intention, not only is it disrespectful to those group of people but it can be very harming to them mentally, always apologize even if it was not your intention, it is still your responsibility to apologize.
Remember that although you apologized that it is not the person’s obligation to accept the apology in any way.
